Set for Octavia, 2013. August Wilson Center, downtown Pittsburgh. Commissioned by Pearl Arts for their mixed media performance piece Octavia. Co-designed with Staycee and Herman Pearl. Approx. 20' tall.
The set-piece was made from plywood, and included a mock desk and chair on the floor, a series of chair forms descending in scale and suspended above the stage, and abstract bird forms.
The performance explores the life and work of SiFi writer Octavia Butler - hence the choice to work with the desk and chair forms.
Backstage at the August Wilson Center, hanging the set-piece with airline cable.
Tropical Fireplace, 2008. Cast concrete facade, floor slab, and cherry mantle. Private residence, Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh. The client requested that the design resonate with Haitian art.
The custom cherry mantle was stained to match the existing ceiling beams.
